Local legislators issue statements on Sen. Ted Kennedy's passing

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has issued the following statement on the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy:

"Ted Kennedy practiced public policy the way it should be practiced, with a focus on doing right and good regardless of the politics. It was a privilege to know and work with him, to learn from him and to call him my friend. Senator Kennedy's passing is felt by my family but also by the many families whose lives have been made better by his work.  We should all learn from his example.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer has issued the following statement on the passing of the senator from Massachusetts:

"We have lost one of the greatest senators of our time. Ted Kennedy is someone who not only fought injustice, but made real strides in advancing women's rights, defending the environment, and protecting minorities. He not only believed in change, but he achieved it -- improving the lives of people the world over.

My personal experience working with Senator Kennedy to help Iraqi refugees who put their lives at risk assisting the United States armed forces was an inspiration. He was a fierce advocate for the most vulnerable people in the world, particularly those in the United States who lack basic health care coverage. By extending health care to every American, I am eager to help achieve one of Senator Kennedy's most important, lifelong goals."
