INDEPENDENCE, Ore. -- A week after he gave his life for his country and his future, a 19-year-old Oregon man will be honored Friday with a memorial service here and interment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Spc. Taylor D. Marks of Monmouth, Ore., died Aug. 28 when an improvised explosive device hit his convoy in part of Baghdad, Iraq.

Marks (near right) and Sgt. Earl D. Werner, 38 (far right), were the first two fatal casaulties of this deployment for Oregon's 41st Infantry. Spc. Reid Walch of Redmond, Ore., was wounded in the attack.

Memorial services for Marks will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Green Villa Barn, 3215 Independence Highway, Independence, Ore.

Interment will be at 4:15 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Ore.

Sgt. Werner is scheduled to return to Oregon tomorrow, arriving at the Portland Air National Guard Base at 11 a.m. Memorial services for Sgt. Werner are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Portland, Ore.

Interment at Willamette National Cemetery will immediately follow. Specific information on location for the interment sites will be posted on the reader board at the main entrance to Willamette National Cemetery.
