Construction worker crushed by repaving truck
BEAVERTON, Ore. - A construction worker died today near Walker Road in Beaverton, backed over by a repaving truck.
The worker has now been identified as 51-year-old John Thomas Sparks. This is at least the 15th construction fatality in Oregon since October 2008, as tracked by the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration through June.
At 3:47 p.m. Saturday Beaverton Police were called to a road construction accident on Southwest 173rd Avenue near Southwest Walker Road in Beaverton. They report that the road construction worker was killed when one of the dump trucks involved in a repaving project there backed over him.
Sparks was pronounced dead at the scene.
Members from the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) have responded to assist in the investigation. Beaverton Police are currently investigating.
