Airsoft gun sparks incident at Milwaukie High

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday afternoon at Milwaukie High School after brandishing a realistic-looking handgun.

According to police, the teenager had an Airsoft gun that was altered to look real, and he was tackled by two people after making threats to them.

A former student, Victor Arciga, said he had just arrived at the school to attend homecoming events and a parade when he saw a boy acting unusual. Then he saw a realistic-looking gun.

“He was flashing it straight up at us,” said Arciga. [He] lifted his shirt, said he wanted to fight me first before I saw the gun. It was poking out of his shirt.”

Arciga and another person wrestled the gun away from the boy. The boy then punched Arciga in the face and ran off. Shortly after, Milwaukie police captured the boy two blocks away.

Police said the boy was not a student at Milwaukie High School or nearby St. Johns Catholic School but was from Oceanside, Calif.

Milwaukie High School did not go into lockdown because police were quickly able to get the situation under control, but St. Johns did for a short time.

Police charged the boy with menacing and disorderly conduct.
