KING CITY, Ore. - A neighborhood is on alert after at least 20 small fires were intentionally set in the last two months in one mobile home community.

Police are asking the residents of Royal Villas, a community for people 55 and older, to leave outside lights on and call 9-1-1 if they see anything suspicious.

Bushes have been torched and an American flag was burned right outside where Gilda Burks and her husband sleep.

“It’s (American flag) attached to my house, and we were asleep inside,” said Burks. “It could have burned my house down.”

Sometimes the same homeowners are targeted several times, and each time the fires are lit closer to their homes.

“When you think about somebody lighting stacks of papers on fire under your house, you know, in your crawl space, that’s a scary situation,” said Sue Bronson a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator.

Residents said they are concerned that because many of the community members are elderly they may not be able to get out of their homes in time if it were to catch on fire.

There has already been a community meeting, and there could be more. So far no one has been hurt.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s office.
