TUKWILA, Wash. - An 11-year-old boy with autism who ran away from home was hit by a truck Saturday after he ran onto a highway, troopers said.

Medics rushed to the scene, on northbound Highway 599 near Tukwila International Boulevard, at about 4:45 p.m. The boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries.

The boy's family called to report him missing Saturday afternoon, and shortly afterward the State Patrol got a call that a juvenile had run into the traffic lanes of northbound Highway 599.

The boy was hit by a landscaping truck as troopers were responding to the area.

The driver of the vehicle is not at fault in the accident, troopers said.

The accident is under investigation and some lanes were closed as of 7 p.m.
