Victim survives Longview stabbing, suspect still at large

LONGVIEW, Wash - The Cowlitz County 9-1-1 center received a call from a person at the apartment complex at 2120 46th Ave. Sunday night at 9:40 p.m. The caller stated a man had been stabbed.

Deputies responded to the scene and found that 37-year-old Amet Asencio-Marquez, of Portland, had at least one stab wound to the chest.

He was taken by ambulance and to a LifeFlight helicopter, and transported to an Oregon hospital.

Due to the serious injury the victim received, he was able to answer very few questions. Police tried to question the apartment's residents, but said that many of them were of Cuban ethnicity and unable to speak much English. As such, no description of the suspect is available.

Asencio-Marquez's vehicle, which he used to come to the apartment complex, has been impounded by deputies. Evidence was recovered at the scene, but the Cowlitz Sheriff's Office tells KATU that it is too early to tell what role this evidence will play in the case.

Detectives have been sent to Portland in hopes of being able to interview Asencio-Marquez sometime this week.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office has asked that anyone with information on this case call police at (360) 577-3092 or, for anonymity, call Crime Stoppers at (360) 577-1206.
