Dumas turns himself in after leaving car on lawn
PORTLAND, Ore. - One man is in critical condition Sunday morning after what police said is a hit-and-run crash in Northeast Portland.
Portland police said it happened on Northeast 33rd Avenue and Shaver Street just before 1:30 a.m.
Investigators believe a driver ran a stop sign, hit another car, and then wound up on the yard near the front porch of a home.
Police said the second driver's injuries are critical, but aren't life threatening.
Police have yet to release information on the suspect.
UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Police tell KATU that the man they found critically injured was 29 years old. His car had been hit by another vehicle, which had been left in the front yard of a residence in the area.
Investigators from Portland's Major Crash Team were called to the scene to investigate. They determined that the driver of the suspect's vehicle ran a stop sign and hit the 29-year-old victim's vehicle. The victim was driving southbound on Northeast 33rd Avenue at the time.
The victim in this accident was driving a Volkswagen Vanagon and the suspect was driving a Lincoln Continental. Investigators have recovered both vehicles, and have reportedly detained a suspect.
UPDATE 2:51 p.m.: The Portland Police Bureau has issued the following information in a press release:
Sunday morning at around 9:30 a.m., the hit-and-run suspect involved in this accident turned himself into the Portland Police Department's Northeast Precinct.
The suspect driver has been identified as 23-year-old Quandrell Dumas of Portland. Investigators have charged Dumas with one count of assault in the second degree, one count of felony hit and run, and one count of reckless driving.
The 29-year-old man who was critically injured is still recovering from his injuries at Emanual Hospital and his named is being withheld until family members can be located.
