PORTLAND, Ore. - A four-vehicle crash involving a log truck on Northwest Cornelius Pass Road Tuesday injured five people - including one critically, authorities said.

Police have not identified anyone involved in the incident.

The five were taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, where the four others were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred about 4 p.m. when the log truck was heading east on Northwest Cornelius Pass Road and came up behind a line of six cars that were stopped in the road waiting for the car in front to turn onto Northwest Shelter Nook Road - which is about a mile from the intersection with Highway 30.

The log truck apparently couldn't stop in time and crossed the median into oncoming traffic, striking a minivan containing four people. The crash pinned three of them inside the mini-van, and rescuers had to free them from the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

Two other sport utility vehicles that were stopped in the line of six were also involved in the wreck. The drivers of those vehicles were also injured.

The driver of the log truck was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

Officials were still investigating the cause of the crash Tuesday.

Northwest Cornelius Pass Road was shut down between Highway 30 and Northwest Skyline Boulevard. It was expected to remain closed for hours.

Officials advised people to use alternate routes including Highway 26 and Northwest Cornell Road.
