The driver has been identified as 25-year-old Nicole Layman of Salem. She was traveling west on Quinaby Road when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane. After the initial impact, Deputy Brewster's vehicle traveled into the ditch and came to a stop. Nicole Layman's son (exact age unknown at the time of this release) was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle and both were transported to the Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Keizer police will continue to investigate this incident but indicate it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor. However, investigators indicate they are looking at speed as a possible factor, based on the weather conditions. No citations have been issued at this time. |
