VANCOUVER, Wash.- This story should make you afraid to drive at night.

Three drivers involved in an early morning crash on State Route 14 near Vancouver are all suspected of driving while intoxicated.

The incident occurred after a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the highway just west of Evergreen about 2:30 a.m., the Washington State Patrol said.

The pickup collided head-on with a 2002 Nissan Xterra then rolled into another lane, where it was struck by a 1998 Plymouth Voyager van.

The driver of the pickup, 24-year-old Heather N. Niewulis of Vancouver, and her passenger, 23-year-old Kasey Maher of Milwaukie, were both taken by ambulance to Southwest Washington Medical Center for an examination of neck and back pain.

The driver of the Nissan, 24-year-old Ryan K. Masuda of Vancouver, suffered a broken collar bone while the van's driver, 31-year-old Lindsay R. Hall of Portland,  were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.

Niewulis was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault while Masuda and Hall were arrested on suspicion of DUI. Investigators took blood samples from the trio so state toxicology lab officials could determine their levels of alcohol concentration.

The westbound lanes of the highway were blocked for about three hours after the crash, and traffic was detoured.
