Mega-Media Merger: Comcast in talks with NBC
UNDATED - A deal is in the works to create a massive media company, combining Comcast Cable with NBC Universal's television and movie operations.
Published reports say the companies have agreed to value the business at about $30 billion.
Comcast's bid to buy a controlling stake of NBC Universal would merge General Electric's television networks and movie studio with Comcast's cable networks.
The two sides, Comcast and GE, have agreed to value NBC Universal at around $30 billion. Both companies are now ironing out a sale agreement. An announcement could come as early as the end of the week.
Meanwhile, critics have railed the potential merger as one ripe for anti-trust violations. Comcast Corp. has 23.8 million cable customers, 15.7 million high-speed Internet customers and 7.4 million Comcast Digital Voice customers.
