Kibbi Lightfeldt's "Bailey" was shot and killed Thursday, found near in public park in Clatskanie - an Oregon town about 60 miles north of Portland on Highway 30.

CLATSKANIE, Ore. - On Thursday Kibbi Lightfeldt stumbled on a gruesome sight: her dog, shot and killed, near a public park. The 5-year-old Weimaraner, Bailey, had been a member of Lightfeldt's family since birth.

Lightfeldt said she let Bailey and another dog out last Thursday night around 8 p.m. - and Bailey took off. She went out looking for Bailey after someone reported hearing a gunshot.

She found Bailey a couple hours later, dead from a gunshot wound. Bailey was found about a mile from her home, near a city park in rural Clatskanie. Clatskanie is a northwestern Oregon town about 60 miles north of Portland, on Highway 30.

Lightfeldt said Bailey was a sweet and loving dog and she can't understand why anyone would want to shoot her instead of trying to help her get back home.

"Somebody call animal control, call the police department, anything else," Lightfeldt said. "She was nice enough; you could have caught her and put her on a leash or a rope. I would have gladly paid a ticket to have her back."

Clatskanie police said they are investigating what happened, but they do not believe someone is going around preying on dogs.

Lightfeldt is offering a $1,000 reward for any tips leading to an arrest and conviction.

There is also a bigger problem, she says, of how dangerous is it for someone to be shooting with a public park just across the street. That's why Lightfeldt said she is not only upset about what happened to her dog, but what might happen to other people near that park.
