Driver: Car peppered with paintballs on I-205
By Meghan KalksteinPORTLAND, Ore. – Police are looking for suspects after a man called 9-1-1 Friday evening to say someone had just shot up his car with a paintball gun while driving down Interstate 205. Bruce Garrett said he honked at a car that sped past him on I-205 and that someone inside the vehicle then brandished a weapon at him, which he recognized as a paintball gun. The person then ducked back inside the vehicle. Garrett called police with his cell phone to report the incident, but while he was on the line with a dispatcher, the suspect reappeared with the gun and began pelting Garrett’s vehicle with orange paintball rounds. "This person pops out of the driver side window and firing shots,” Garrett told KATU News, “and he was out to about his chest out the window." Garrett said his car was hit multiple times, including on the windshield. The splattered paint hampered his vision and Garrett was not able to get the license number of the vehicle. The paint on his windshield also made driving on the highway hazardous. When KATU News talked to Garrett about the incident, orange paint could still be seen on the hood of his car. Police investigating the incident said several homes in the area near where the shooting took place also reported being hit with orange paint, likely from a paintball gun. No suspect or vehicle information has yet been released. |
