Rescued rabbits up for adoption
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - More than 100 bunnies who have been in legal limbo for months will be offered for adoption next Saturday, April 28.
The rabbits were rescued from neglect and Hillsboro police are once again looking for homes.
The rabbits were rescued from neglect last October. And the owner reportedly stole them back from custody in January. The rabbits were recovered by police.
The owner of the rabbits, Miriam Sakewitz, recently pleaded no contest to charges of animal neglect and officially forfeited the animals to Hillsboro.
The Hillsboro Police Department and the Oregon Humane Society are now inviting the public to take home a rabbit. They hope to adopt out all the animals.
The Oregon Humane Society is helping the police with the adoptions. All have been spayed or neutered. There is a suggested adoption donation of $15, which benefits Rabbit Advocates, an Oregon nonprofit group.
The adoption is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Parks Warehouse in Hillsboro.
