Oregon State Police and Tillamook County Sheriff's Office are seeking the public's help in locating a missing England-area man who was reportedly cycling from Port Angeles, Washington to San Diego, California and was believed to have been in the Tillamook County area when last heard from April 30.

Photographs of recently purchased bicycling equipment and gear, as well as photographs of the missing man are being provided to help locate him.  Anyone with information or who may have seen the man during the period described below is asked to contact Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888.

According to investigators, Clive Leslie Ruddle, age 49, from Aldbourne, Wiltshire, England was last heard from by his wife via email on April 30, 2007.  According to the email, Ruddle indicated he was in the Tillamook County area.  Investigators believe Ruddle , who is described as an experienced rider in good condition, was to be riding along Highway 101 down the Oregon coast into California and was reported to be staying overnight in State Parks along his route.

Ruddle flew into Seattle, Washington on April 19th for a planned cycling trip along the West Coast until he was to arrive in San Diego, California around June 6th.  He had planned on traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia with the below purchased equipment for his trip, but he was unable to transport the bicycle on the train without disassembling it so he decided to leave from Port Angeles.  He was expecting to arrive in Eureka, California last Sunday, May 6th, but did not arrive.

Investigators have also learned that on April 19th, Ruddle went to the Port Angeles, Washington-area REI store and purchased new cycling and camping equipment for his trip including the following:

  • a new coffee-colored NOVARA RANDONEE bicycle (see photograph)
  • two (2) ORTLIEB Backroller Pannier saddlebags, black in color, that were placed on the rear of the bicycle (see photograph)
  • two (2) ORTLIEB Backroller Pannier saddlebags, yellow in color, that were placed on the front of the bicycle (see photograph of black style)
  • one (1) charcoal grey colored "BMX style" helmet with orange straps (see photo style)
  • a yellow cycling jacket
  • a white with green and orange accents "quarter dome" two-person tent
  • an REI "Kilo" sleeping bag, yellow in color

Ruddle is described as a white male, 6' tall, 180 pounds, with grey receding hair, and blue eyes.  He has a scar on his left torso side.  According to his wife, he "doesn't usually have a moustache but he may have grown one during the trip.  He (also) hates shaving and may have a bit of a beard."

Ruddle is also reportedly in possession of an international cellular phone but has not used it since the April 30th email was sent.  He also has a United Kingdom issued passport.

Ruddle has been entered into a national computer database as a missing person.

Anyone with information related to this missing person case is asked to contact Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at (800) 452-7888.
