An Eastern Oregon man was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a Newberg-Dundee police officer's attempt to stop him for a traffic violation in Newberg.  Following a short attempt to elude, the driver crashed and was immediately arrested without further incident.

A 17-year old girl riding with him was also taken into custody and charged with two crimes.

The investigation found the driver, Jason Eugene Dungan, 29, had stolen the black 2009 Nissan Sentra from a car dealer in The Dalles about five days earlier.  Dungan also had eight arrest warrants from three Eastern counties, five from Baker, two from Umatilla and one from Union.

From the Tuesday afternoon attempt to elude, Dungan was arrested for five felonies, including attempt to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of controlled substances, and first degree forgery.

He was also charged with six misdemeanors, including misdemeanor driving while suspended, second degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, second degree trespass, and possession of a forged instrument.  Violations included violation of the basic rule, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Looking through the stolen Nissan, officers found several dozen stolen items taken in burglaries and car prowls throughout the area.  Officers are working with other police agencies connecting the items to those crimes.  The investigation with the other agencies is continuing, and more charges in those counties are pending.

The girl was charged with possession of controlled substances and first degree theft by receiving.  She was held at the Yamhill County Detention Facility, McMinnville.  Dugan remains held without bail at the Yamhill County Corrections Facility, McMinnville.
