COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) - A Coos County woman seriously wounded by her husband who was hiding the back seat of her vehicle is fighting off a bacterial infection and faces more surgery.

Her mother says 22-year-old Ashley Kendall is not out of the woods yet. She is in critical condition at a Portland hospital. If her health remains stable, she's to undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the exit wound of a rifle bullet.

Kendall's estranged husband, Travis, is accused of slipping into the car earlier this month while she saw a lawyer for advice about a divorce and then shooting her as she drove away.

He killed himself after a police chase.

Her mother says Ashley Kendall is no longer in an induced coma but is asleep much of the time.
