Bicyclist struck by car, killed near Cornelius

CORNELIUS, Ore. - An Aloha bicyclist was killed Saturday when he was hit by a car trying to pass him on a rural Washington County road north of here.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office identified the man as 66-year-old Timothy O'Donnell.

The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Jennifer Knight of Hayden, Idaho, was cited for driving while suspended, careless driving and passing in a no passing zone.

According to the sheriff's office, O'Donnell was one of five bicyclists riding south on Cornelius-Schefflin Road about 12:15 p.m. when he signaled that the group was going to turn east on Northwest Long Road. About the same time, a 2008 Dodge Avenger heading the same direction began to pass the group of bicycles and struck O'Donnell's bike while it was still in its lane of traffic, the sheriff's office said.

O'Donnell was pronounced dead at the scene.
