Do you know how you're getting home tonight?

PORTLAND, Ore. - New Year's Eve can be a blast, but it can also take a bad turn quickly if you've been drinking.

So before you head out the door this evening, make sure you have a plan on how you'll get home.

DESIGNATED DRIVER

MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) encourages people to designate someone who makes a pledge to stay sober for the evening so they can drive their friends/family home.

There is just one important thing to remember:

"Make sure if you are the designated driver, that you stick to it," said Kristine Twenge with MADD's Portland-Pacific Northwest Affiliate.

Twenge also added that many bars and establishments will offer free non-alcoholic beverages for designated drivers. Just ask when you get there.

CABS

We put in calls to three major cab companies in town (Radio Cab, Broadway Cab and Green Cab) and discovered that none are offering special discounts for New Year's Eve. Standard rates will apply, so if you plan on taking a cab home, make sure you have enough money in your pocket.

TOW COMPANIES

We put in calls to four major towing companies in town (Speed's Towing, Retriever, Newhouse & Hutchins and Sergeant's) and discovered that none are offering special tows or discounts for New Year's Eve. Standard rates will apply, so be prepared. Sergeant's did say that they donate a portion of their tow fees to the Oregon Humane Society as part of a partnership with them.
