Man killed while trying to cross I-5 in Centralia
CENTRALIA, Wash. -- A pedestrian was killed while trying to cross Interstate 5 near the Skookumchuck Bridge.
Troopers said the man was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of the interstate at approximately 3:21 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit.
A semi truck tried to swerve and avoid hitting the man, but could not, troopers said. The truck hit the pedestrian and side-swiped a minivan in the next lane.
The pedestrian, 29-year-old Michael Wingert, died from his injuries. Two passengers of the minivan were transported to an area hospital with neck injuries.
Troopers do not know why the man tried to cross the interstate.
