Sam Adams recall effort officially under way

PORTLAND, Ore. - A new effort to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams launched on Wednesday.

Paperwork was filed with the City Auditor to restart the campaign to recall Adams. It comes one year after the mayor admitted lying about his relationship with Beau Breedlove, a teenage legislative intern, in order to get elected.

The first recall effort failed to get enough signatures. This new campaign includes financial backing from some business leaders and will use paid signature gatherers.

Avel Gordly, the chief petitioner (and former state senator), said the city is under a cloud and suffering crippled leadership. She said she is confident this second effort will get enough signatures to get on the ballot and Adams will be recalled.
