Sheriff warns boaters of landslide in Clackamas River

Landslide into the Clackamas River one mile downstream of Barton Park.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office warned boaters Wednesday about a landslide of trees that slid into the Clackamas River one mile downstream of Barton Park.

The sheriff’s office said its marine patrol discovered the slide Wednesday, Jan. 20 and that large trees are blocking part of the river.

The sheriff’s office urged boaters to use caution in this area and warned them to watch for debris and dislodged trees that may block portions of the river downstream of the slide.

“I’m relatively confident that this is something that just occurred,” Detective Jim Strovink, spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

He said his office received a call about the slide and, when the marine patrol investigated the area, it decided the slide could be a hazard for a portion of the river that receives a lot of boat traffic.

Strovink said that he does not know if anything will be done about the slide, but the sheriff’s office will investigate further on Thursday to determine if any action will be taken.
