Police officer, hostage expected to recover
VANCOUVER, Wash. - A police officer and a hostage known to the suspect in a Vancouver standoff both suffered gunshot wounds during the 20-hour ordeal.
Cpl. Chris LeBlanc was shot in the arm during the standoff. He was listed in serious condition on Wednesday.
Surgery was planned for Thursday to remove the bullet, which ended up lodged in the officer's back.
Shane Runyon, 33, who was held hostage for hours, was shot once in the abdomen, according to Vancouver police officer Steve Capellas. It is not yet known who shot him. His wounds were not life threatening.
Police said the suspect in the standoff, 28-year-old Matthew Hastings, was armed with a shotgun and a .45-caliber handgun.
He was arrested after police filled the home with tear gas. Hastings was not injured.
