PORTLAND, Ore. - Hundreds gathered in northeast Portland Monday night to remember a beloved principal who died over the weekend.
Bernard Harvard, the principal of da Vinci Arts Middle School, died unexpectedly on Saturday. The details surrounding his death have not been released.
Harvard was well regarded by colleagues and students and was known for his work at Portland schools, as well as his talent as a professional musician.
"He had a smile that could light a million bulbs," said student Emma Burke. "He had an infectious personality. He drew people to him. Everybody loved him."
Bernard was 41 years old. He is survived by his wife and a 5-year-old son.
