4 year old 'fair' after 30 hours in woods

BROOKINGS, Ore. – A 4-year-old Brookings girl who was found alive Thursday night after spending 30 hours in the woods is in fair condition at a Portland hospital.

Rescuers told KATU sister station KDRV in Medford that Zoey
Dorsey crawled under thick brush, at the bottom of a canyon, about two to three miles from her home. Three volunteer searchers found her. She was suffering from hypothermia, with a core body temperature of 83 degrees, and barely conscious.

"She was very delirious,"
said independent Volunteer Rescuer Robert Crump, who found the girl. "She was hypothermic, in shock, and scratched up pretty good."

Curry County Sheriff John Bishop said Dorsey was initially taken to a Crescent City hospital and was expected to recover.

A Coast Guard helicopter airlifted her to a safe area and eventually to the Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City. Her family is with her as doctors try to evaluate her condition, and will keep her in the hospital overnight.

Dorsey was reported missing from her residence at the top of Mountain Drive in Brookings around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Helicopters, ground crews and scent dogs were used in the search. Search and rescue teams from Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Del Norte and Klamath counties, along with the Oregon Air National Guard and Oregon State Police, assisted.
