ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - Dell's Roseburg call center ceased operations Thursday morning, with more than 200 employees losing their jobs.

Employees learned of the closure around 10 a.m. Dell opened its sales and call center in the North Roseburg Plaza to much fanfare in 2002.

Dell spokesman David Frink from the company's headquarters in Austin, Texas says they are doing everything they can to help those laid off to transition beyond Dell.

Frink says the company had announced plans to reduce employment worldwide by ten percent at the end of May. Frink says the Roseburg location is the only such center in the U.S. to close currently.

Frink says the closure has nothing to do with a lawsuit filed by employees of the Roseburg center in February. Workers claimed Dell violated federal and state wage and hour laws.
