PORTLAND, Ore. - A bald eagle rescued from a muddy pond is now doing well and may be released back into the wild this weekend.

Last week, a Stimson Lumber employee spotted the eagle flailing in the company's waste treatment pond and called the Audubon Society for help. They sent out a couple of people to row out and rescue the eagle.

The eagle was taken to a facility where he was treated for shock and cleaned up.

"I don't think he would have been able to free himself," said Deb Scheaffer with the Audubon Society. "If he had, he wouldn't have been able to fly. He had more than nine pounds of mud on him, which is what his body weight is."

The eagle will need a few more washings and then if all goes well, will be released back into the wild on Sunday.
