PORTLAND, Ore. – Marge was angry about getting mugged.
So the 89-year-old got the word out, which helped police arrest the woman suspected of stealing Marge's purse.
Tiffany Denise Smith, 33, appeared in court Wednesday. She faces a list of charges, including burglary, assault and ID theft. She also has a history of arrests dating back to 2009 including prostitution and ID theft.
Marge said after the mugging, for the first time in 89 years, she didn't feel safe.
At least one other woman, a 90-year-old, says Smith mugged her, too.
Marge wanted to get the word out from Day One. Last Wednesday, Marge told KATU, she had a message for the mugger. Marge said, "Come back here I'll use a baseball bat on ya. Or I'll use a cane I got over there with a steel head on it. ... You should be ashamed of yourself for what you've done to me and what you do to other people," she said at the time."
On Tuesday Marge didn't feel any different.
"I would like to hang her up like a pinata and then let me at her," she said.
Marge is doing well and plans to be at the trial to testify if at all possible.
Police say another woman, who is 90 years old, also had her purse stolen by Smith. That incident happened last month in the 4800 block of Southeast Henderson Street. The suspect knocked on the door and pushed past the woman when she answered the door, stole her purse from the dining room table and fled.
Smith has been arrested several times before for ID theft, attempted prostitution and a number of probation violations.
Last September an on-duty Oregon State Police detective resigned after he was allegedly caught having sex with Smith in some bushes.
Smith is scheduled to be in court again Jan. 24.
