PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police are continuing their prostitution stings on Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast 82nd Avenue.

Monday, they arrested a woman after she got into a pick-up truck with a man. Officers say her story didn't make sense.

She told them the driver called her but he claimed she was the one who initiated the meeting.

The woman admitted she's been arrested for prostitution before.

Police say they have made 50 arrests in the latest sweep.

Another admitted prostitute says she's not afraid of the police. "Denise" said she can be in and out of jail within a day and it's worth the risk.

A local family says they see the prostitutes lingering on the streets.

They said they have seen transactions take place and they want to shield their young daughter from the ongoing activity. They also said they support police efforts to cut down on the illegal activity.

Denise says the quality of life in the area is not of any concern to her.

She said she'd been a prostitute for four years and that her prostitution does not bother her. " I'm not worried about the community," Denise said. "I am very selfish and just thinking about myself."

Police said the focus of the current sting is the prostitutes, although they have arrested more than a dozen johns.

Police also say word is out that they have a prostitution sting going on so many of the prostitutes out on the streets are from out of state.
