NEAR BANKS, Ore. - A Canby mother has died and four others were hospitalized following a head-on crash on a notorious stretch of Highway 6 near Banks.

Oregon State Police said the collision Sunday night was the third they have responded to on that stretch of road in just the last week.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. Sunday,  forcing the closure of the highway for several hours while investigators reconstructed the wreck.

Five people, including three children, were taken to area hospitals.

State police identified them as:

  • Stacie Ann Boyer, 39, of Canby. She was taken to Oregon Health and Science University, where she later died.
  • Nick Boyer, 16, was seriously injured and taken to OHSU. His condition was unknown Monday.
  • McKinzie Boyer, 14, received non-life threatening injuries and was believed to have been taken to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
  • Katelyn Marks, 15, received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
  • Aubrey Ray Hunter, 37, of Forest Grove, received serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Her condition was unknown Monday.

OSP troopers said Stacie Boyer was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon east on Highway 6 when it crossed over the centerline and ran head-on into a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Hunter.

Boyer was driving the three teens.

Both drivers had to be pulled from their vehicles.

Troopers said it appears excessive speed was a factor in the crash based on just how bad the front-end damage was to the vehicles.

They are now trying to locate any witnesses.

"That's really helpful for us when people stop and let us know what they saw," Sgt. Malcolm Lewis said.
