STEVENSON, Wash. -- Authorities on Monday were searching for a car driven by two teachers who did not return over the weekend from an overnight camping trip in the Mount St. Helens area.

It was not clear where the teachers, 27-year-old David Bahr and 36-year-old Kim Wilson, went camping near the mountain.

They left Saturday and were reported missing Sunday night after they did not return as scheduled Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff's officials with Skamania and Cowlitz counties along with U.S. Forest Service personnel were checking trailheads for their car and asking friends if they knew exactly where the two went hiking.

The car was described as a red 1994 Subaru Impreza two-door hatchback with Washington license plate UGT 305.

Both work in the Rainier, Ore., school district. Officials there said Monday that substitute teachers were covering the classes for the missing teachers, and counselors were being provided for students as needed.

Wilson, of Rainier, teaches science and has been with the district since 2005. The district said Bahr, of Longview, was recently hired as a health and physical education teacher.
