NEWBERG, Ore. – One person has died after a Monday crash near downtown Newberg.

"A Monday afternoon two-car crash in Newberg has left one person dead, one critically injured and two with unknown injuries," reports the Newberg-Dundee Police Department. "The crash is on Hwy 99W, just west of downtown Newberg as two one-way grids dividing the downtown area realign."

The names of the person who died and the names of those injured in the wreck are being withheld until family notifications are made. Newberg police said the critically injured patient was flown to "a Portland area hospital" by Life Flight. 

All lanes of Oregon state highway 99W remained closed Monday afternoon and early evening at milepost 24 in Newberg. Northbound traffic is being detoured to East Third Street, and then to South Main Street, heading through Newberg. 

Southbound traffic is being directed to take Oregon 240, known as the Yamhill-Newberg Highway, or Northeast Fox Farm Road to Oregon 99W, also known as East Portland Road.

As of just after 5 p.m. Monday, Newberg police said Oregon 99W will remain "partially closed for at least two more hours," reopening at about 7 p.m. Monday evening. 

The Newberg-Dundee Police are being assisted by members of the Yamhill County Major Accident Traffic Team, comprised of troopers, deputies and officers from the Oregon State Police, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, and McMinnville Police.  The Oregon Department of Transportation and Newberg Public Works crews are assisting in re-routing traffic around the crash site.
