Medford teacher who wants a gun draws NRA attention
MEDFORD, Ore. - The National Rifle Association is paying for an Oregon teacher to sue her school district so she can bring a gun to school.
The teacher's attorney filed the lawsuit this week saying the Medford School District's gun policy violates state law.
Her attorney claims carrying a concealed weapon is her right. Phil Long, the Medford Schools Superintendent, claims the district has the power to prohibit concealed weapons in the schools.
JamesLeuenberger, who is representing the teacher, says "gun free" zones only prohibit law-abiding citizens from carrying guns and that criminals ignore those laws.
The woman wants to remain anonymous and said she wants to carry the firearm to protect herself from her ex-husband.
So far the district isn't budging on their policy.
