Animal activists 'free' pheasants from farm near Canby

NEAR CANBY, Ore. – An anonymous group claiming to represent the ALF – Initials often used by the Animal Liberation Front – say they broke open a pheasant farmer's pen Friday night.
The activists tore open fencing that kept pheasants in captivity.
According to the release sent out by "Bite Back" magazine, the group claiming to represent the ALF said "these sentient beings will now get the chance to live out the rest of their natural lives in the wild."
Ironically, most of the pheasants never left the pen at all.
Chris and Val Blanton, who own the property and raise the pheasants, said they started raising them about a year ago and only Monday morning discovered the damage to the pen. They said one pheasant was missing, another died, but the rest were still inside the pen.
"It's just frustrating. Stupid people. Stupid ideas," said Chris Blanton with Primrose Pheasant Farm. "They think their way is the right way and everybody else should live it that way. And that's not the American way."
The Blantons spent Monday morning repairing the damaged pen.
The group said they were also responsible for another attack on a pheasant farm in May in Scio.
The Blantons said they'll file a police report with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
"..."these sentient beings will now get the chance to live out the rest of their natural lives in the wild."" Yes, they can throw off the shackles of oppression, re-unite with their families, and become productive members of society. That, at least, is the hope. But in reality, those who aren't eaten by coyotes or dogs, will likely return to the delinquent lifestyles which first landed them in the Blanton's prison. These birds, as beautiful and tasty as they may be, are, sadly, prone to the temptations of strong drink and street drugs.
I didn't think we had any peasants near Canby, or anywhere else in Oregon. Oh, pheasants, oops, never mind!
"Ironically, most of the pheasants never left the pen at all."
Typical pheasant behavior. These are one of the Cosmic Being's dumbest creations! However, upland bird season would have been very productive--a tasty bird on the bar-bee, for certain!
@Gravity Works! Our chickens and rooster were the same way.  You could leave the pen open, and they might wander around a bit, but they spent most of their time in the pen (where they got fed...)
Freeeeee Birrrrrd!
What these so called "animal activist" don't realize - as they really know nothing about animals - is animals raised in captivity are at risk for death when let out. Pheasants aren't the smartest birds and you see the wild ones on the road as road kill often. The so called activist are actually cruel animal haters.
Smart birds stayed put - they knew where they were safe and their dinner would be!

Now to see if law enforcement will do such a fine job at finding the vandals...
Stinkin' hippies violating these people's right to farm, eat pheasants.(do they taste good?)...One day they will meet up with a savy farmer that isn't afraid to shoot...
@theytriedtocensorbut-I'MBACK! They are very good tasting! This is why it's so expensive when you finally find a restaurant that has pheasant! That and because certain groups of "motivated believers" or better known as criminal idiots keep breaking into legal farms and killing their birds in the name of ecology and animal rights! Wasn't it ALF that released the Asiatic carp into the Illinois River? Or was that the Fish and Game Department? Hmmmm.....
 @theytriedtocensorbut-I'MBACK! (do they taste good?)
Â
They are very rich and yes, they are way better then chicken any day!
Alf suporters have to be as stupid as PETA people, They should learn even just a few facts about pen raised birds vs. natural wild birds before they try to send their captives off to their deaths. Pen raised anything hardly ever survives in the wild, they starve to death or get eaten rather quickly.
You got that right.
So, all the pheasants hung around? Who says birds are dumb? If they had escaped they would have been good game for hunting season which is coming soon. These animal rights folks are not as smart as the birds. Freeing something like a pheasant just makes them targets during hunting season. (Actually, they could do all of us a favor and release more. Pheasant hunting has gotten really tough.)
@Nobody only one problem with the birds being around till hunting season. Most pen raised game birds are eaten by wild animals within days maybe weeks if they are lucky enough to survive that long.
"It's just frustrating. Stupid people. Stupid ideas," said Chris Blanton with Primrose Pheasant Farm. "They think their way is the right way and everybody else should live it that way. And that's not the American way."
Wow, sounds like they're describing the DNC....
I thought ALF was that stupid show from the 80's. Oh wait...same thing?
@wondering No... that ALF from the 80s was much more intelligent.
Another group confusing animals with humans, thinking they have rights and souls and are good for anything other than admiring their beauty in nature, and eating them â once you pick out the buckshot! I say let's hunt the activists.
Reminds me of the group of MENSA candidates that 'freed' the (domesticated) mink a few years back.... and most of them died.Â
Â
Who needs intelligence? We've got a 'noble' cause!
Hilarious. What a bunch of incompetent morons.
typical liberal hypocrites, you never hear of the ALF or any other domestic terrorist groups "freeing" the noble pigeon
Too bad the property owner wasn't out and about with a shotgun.
@Unknown with rock salt & Pepper loads...
@Khre'Riov Ael i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu  @Unknown Would rock salt & pepper loads help to pre-season the pheasant?
@UtterReality  LOL! Might at that, but that burning sensation to the posterior region wouldn't be because they backed up to the fire...
@UtterReality @Khre'Riov Ael i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu @Unknown ---Unlikely. But it MIGHT improve the "long pig".
I think it's really fuuny that an animal activist group doesn't know that ring neck pheasants are not a native spieces to Oregon. They are a Chinese bird brought to America back in the 1800s. So by doing this "release" act they are recklessly endangering native spieces by unlawfully introducing an invasive spiece to the wild. If you want to help nature then learn something about nature before engaging in childish antics.
@MickRoh Shhhhh... don't interfere with their 'noble' cause. Best not to introduce logic or rational thought into such things.Â
I hope the ALF realizes that the reason there aren't more wild pheasants in this area is the growth of the coyote population...who are doubtless dining on pheasant under glass at this very moment.
@al_02 Much more likely to be "pheasant under rubber" in an asphalt-and-bumper-chrome sauce.
