BEAVERTON, ORE. – The warm, dry nights of are perfect for barbecues or just lounging on the patio. Unfortunately for drivers, it’s also a prime time for road construction.
The latest case in point: the Oregon Department of Transportation is shutting down a stretch of Highway 217 overnight on Friday into Saturday morning for road construction.
The northbound lanes of the highway between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Canyon Road will close tonight at 11 p.m. and is scheduled to re-open by 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.
ODOT has set up a detour where people can get off the highway and circumvent the construction on Frontage Road across Canyon and back onto 217.
The paving project will help improve safety on the entire highway, an ODOT spokesman said. Crews will widen the shoulder in several locations, upgrade the center median, improve signage and re-pave a long stretch.
