Astoria man arrested in shooting of brother
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — Police say a 42-year-old Astoria man has been arrested in the shooting of his brother.
The Daily Astorian reports that police officers are trying to figure out what the two brothers were fighting about Tuesday afternoon. They were living in a home with their parents.
Deputy Chief Brad Johnston says David Ethan Long II faces an assault charge.
Johnston says 39-year-old Clarence Long was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital. No report on his condition was immediately available Wednesday.
I'm thinking he just wanted to stop him, not kill him. It IS his brother. His brother could very well be 2 X's his size, u know. Maybe he was just defending himself.
The parents are probably quite old, they may even have mobility issues. It wouldn't be logical that these 2 grown men are staying with the parents for reasons that aren't completely selfish, now would it. You all probably don't understand that perspective, though, to realistic for u. I only hope when u are all being judged, the one that is judging is as ignorant as you all are for your sake.
"shot in the leg"...  Indication of poor aim, lack of training, and without determination.  Worthless.
 @Benjamin Schniffle Poor aim, huh,whatever. .  I'm thinking he just wanted to stop him, not kill him. It IS his brother. His brother could very well be 2 X's his size, u know. Maybe he was just defending himself. Oh, but that actually might make some sense, that's why u didn't think of it, now I get it.
Probably fighting over their sister.
fighting over what to watch on tv?
I don't think it's unacceptable for adult families to live together if the kids are in college or working, but if you're in your 40s and have lived with family your entire life, that means you spent the last 20+ years doing absolutely nothing with yourself and haven't really worked toward anything. Also the fact that one of them pulled a gun on the other tells me these guys are dimwits. I somehow doubt they are productive members of society.
 @s.c.h. The only dimwits are here talking about a situation that they know absolutely nothing about.

Poor parents.
Heck, I'd shoot myself if I was living with my parents at the age of 39 and 42.
Clarence was dress up like a clown, again. David has a fear of clowns. Self defense.
Hmm....39 and 42, both living with their parents. Â That right there might be sufficient "reason" to begin shooting, I guess. Â Might have been better to just move out into the woods and live in a tent. Â Jeeesh -- when my sister and I would have a disagreement, we'd throw jacks at each other, then we'd get the belt. Â Oh, that's a different article, isn't it? Â
Probably fighting over the last bowl of cheerios. "Mom! You need to get more cheerios!!!"

 @Dr. Rawdog I think the argument is going to go the other way on this one, if they were still living at home at their ages and settled their dispute (or attempted to settle it) with a gun....
Â
I do believe this will be one for how helicopter moms are not helping to bring productive members of society up and I venture a guess, the side of the debate saying they SHOULDN'T be allowed to play fight with swords is the problem.Â
 @Dr. Rawdog No but in your 40's and living at home with your parents is clearly not a sign of a well balanced, mature, responsible adult. So not sure what your point is here...
 @FreedomRocks  @Dr. Rawdog C'mon Freedom...he was making a joke..(sarcasm)  In regards to the recent events with kids "play fighting" on the playground.  I agree with you..anyone in their 40's still living at home has some "issues".

 @FreedomRocks  @Dr. Rawdog I totally understand what you're saying...I know nutz is anti-gun...but, I think in this case he was joking.  Nutz, if you're reading this...clear your name...cause, if you were being serious with this comment...it's just silly.
 @PD1202  @Dr. Rawdog Don't think so he is a big anti gun poster on this site and clearly thinks anyone who owns or wants to own a gun is a backwoods hillbilly nut to begin with. Just check out some other gun articles on KATU and look for his or gunnutz comments and you will see what I mean.
another family tree that is a wreath

 @gunnutz Better than living in her bedroom, don't you think? Wait a minute, of course you don't!
 @gunnutz Really that is how sad and desperate a person you have become with your anti gun rants that you have to drop to this level in your argument against guns?
 @FreedomRocks  @gunnutz Vegas Gun Geezer Wastes Home Intruders. Mainstream Media Ignores:http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/05/1-criminal-dead-72-year-old-man-alive-after-his-handgun-protects-him-from-armed-intruders/
but did you read it and comprehend it?
 @gunnutz  @Playanekes  @FreedomRocks Would you like a list of all those who died from back yard swimming pools, drunk drivers, hammers, and on and on...
Â
Your stats are pretty meaningless since more people are killed with hammers then rifles last year.
Â
You should really change your name to hammernuts it would be more appropriate...
 @gunnutz dude this is you http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hoplophobe
 @FreedomRocks  @gunnutz ignore nutz he is a moron that just cant handle the fact that some of us want to keep ALL of our civil rights and not hand our lives over to King Obama.
"C'mon! We gotta R-U-N-N-O-F-T ! "
Well it appears the parents will have only one of the adult sons living with them now. The other one will be housed on our dime. Isn't that nice of us?
 @Bill Preston If they behave, maybe the judge will allow the brothers to have conjugal visits.
 @Playanekes That's how it all started. They were fighting over who gets to be on top tonight! (I meant bunkbeds, of course.)
Oh Brother!
A 39 year old and a 42 year old living with their parents?
Â
Okaaaaaaay.

 @The CatalystÂ
Call me jaded. After working the streets for 30 years I have seen cases like this where the children take complete advantage of their parents. Some have actually taken over their parents finances and bankrupted them.
Â
This is my perspective. I have never been on a call where offspring were living with their parents while taking good care of them and ended up shooting, stabbing or assaulting one another. Usually it is a bad situation all around and a pretty dysfunctional family.
 @RalphCramden My daughter lives at home, but she pay's rent, works but doesn't drive so I drive her to work when she needs me to. Generally she rides with the other people who work the same shift though.  She is a big help around here though.. The son worked and paid rent also since we where close to his work. Lots cheaper for them. Now he pay's rent and is married with a little boy. He still comes and helps though when we need the extra muscle since he lives just above us.Â
Â
I don't have anything against kids living at home so long as they pay rent and help the parents out as needed. But most are just users and abusers these day's it seems sadly!
 @Khre'Riov Ael i-Mhiessan t'RllaillieuÂ
More and more kids will be living with parents as the economy declines. I see that in our neighborhood all the time. My wife and I expect to have more family living with us as time goes on.
Â
These guys seen like they are living with their parents cause they are dysfunctional. I think that the shooting proves that....8-}

 @RalphCramden  Yup, the no jobs I think is going to get worse also!Â
Â
Bet I could get a lot more done also if I had that many living here too! Lucky him! I get another 2 years behind myself every summer,lol! Seems the more I get things done, its time to go back and start over.. Wind & storms sure make a mess every spring to add to it..Â
 @Khre'Riov Ael i-Mhiessan t'RllaillieuÂ
Plus the high unemployment rate doesn't help.
Â
My cousin has 20 acres in Washington and he has 4 different families living there. All of them are out of work and they work off the rent and utilities and he is getting a lot done on his property.
Â
It's a sign of the times.
 @RalphCramden  I agree on the dysfunctional part. And yes, I think we will see more family's doing this. The costs have risen so high that a lot of folks can't make it by themselves anymore sadly!Â
Â
Â
 @RalphCramden Hah, right?Â
Â
Adult people don't typically live with family members unless it's out of necessity. Most are either, like you said, having financial hardships or are in college.Â
 @s.c.h.Â
My wife and I have had someone living with us most of our adult life at one time or another. Most were relatives and most had a financial hardship.
Â
During that time we never had a shooting, stabbing, assault or anything like that. We did have some random furniture rearranging and cleanings but that is about it....8-}
 @RalphCramden I think that's a good distinction to make. Some families live together out of necessity (especially in this economy), and for others it's a cultural thing (I know a Russian woman in her late 20s and everyone in her whole family- parents, siblings, grandparents- all share one big house). The fact that these guys are shooting each other in the legs tells me they are immature, unproductive, and have too much time on their hands.
