No baseball in Milwaukie? Talks stall after deadline isn't met

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Professional baseball will not be played in Milwaukie anytime soon, if at all.
City officials announced Tuesday that after months of negotiations a deadline to reach an agreement had not been met. One of the reasons cited is a plan to bring the Yakima Bears to Hillsboro.
The efforts to bring a minor league team to Milwaukie began more than a year ago and has cost the city $160,000 so far.
Still, the idea is not quite dead yet. Coming up on August 7, the City Council will talk baseball once again and decide whether they want to keep pursuing the project.
I cant believe Milwaukie wasted that much money on this. Â Everyone knew baseball wasnt coming to the city.
Get rid of the timbers and bring back the american past time sport
This is government acting like a business, spending money to research and plan for an investment that cold potentially bring in a large amount of revenue.

Where is the cheering from the conservatives?
As a senior member of the overenlightened class, I am well aware of the benefit that distractions such as baseball, soccer, and basketball provide for the ignorant masses. At the same time, some of the less socially conscious citizens of Milwaukie have been frothing over the arrival in their community of light rail. As such, I would encourage the city fathers to continue to pursue the plan for bringing baseball to Milwaukie. $160, 000 is not nearly enough money to spend before walking away from a plan like this. It has been proven time after time, that the taxpayers have infinitely deep pockets and those pockets need to be mined. If they complain, threaten them with closure of a public school or layoffs of police officers. That will bring them into line.

Most of all, instead of beer, serve KoolAid at the ball games. It continues to be my beverage of choice.
It's nice that the City of Milwaukie is so flush with cash that they can spend $160K on some "pie in the sky" dream. Too bad there isn't as much priority placed on maintaining the streets, parks, etc.
$160k in a failed effort to bring what would likely be a failed investment. Not sure if that's good or bad, but regardless, the city I work in is out $160k, so I'm sure they'll be begging my company for more money soon.
Figures...with that kind of money already spent you'd think something would have happened by now. Bureaucratic red tape wins again. I personally would like to see it happen but just don't know if there would be enough support for it.
