Early morning fire rips through Beaverton home; pet cat killed

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Flames spread through a two-story home in Beaverton early Wednesday.

A family of four escaped the fire, but a pet cat died, firefighters said. Three other pets also escaped.

The fire started at a house in the 12000 block of Southwest 8th Street at around 2:45 a.m.

Crews found flames shooting out of both sides of the house when they arrived.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes. Firefighters were able to limit damage to the home, but the garage was destroyed, according to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters said they determined the fire started on the back deck near a meat smoker.

The fire was the second residential fire of the morning for Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue. Crews were mopping up a fire at a West Linn duplex when they received a call about the house fire in Beaverton.
