Belmont goats set to move

PORTLAND, Ore. -- We now know when the herd of 14 urban goats that makes its home in a SE Portland pasture surrounded by a chain-link fence will move.  We just don't know where they will end up.

Christopher Frankonis, one of eight volunteer caretakers who bought the herd in October so they could keep it together, said they are planning to move the herd sometime during the third week of January.

But Frankonis said they are still working out arrangements for a new location. He said it will definitely be somewhere in Inner S.E. Portland.

The herd now has its own website.

"It will be relatively close in but smaller than this," he said of the current location at S.E. Belmont and 11th, which is now known as Goat Field.

Construction will begin in 2014 on a residential and retail development to be called the Goat Blocks Redevelopment.

"The property owners have been great to work with," Frankonis said.
