Beverly Cleary's childhood home in Portland is up for sale

PORTLAND, Ore. - The childhood home of one of Portland's most well-known authors is up for sale.
Beverly Cleary, who has written more than 30 books for kids and young adults, once lived at 3340 N.E. Hancock Street and the house (built in 1910) just went on the market with a list price of $362,000.
According to the real estate agency that is listing the house, renters had most recently been occupying the home but have since moved out and the house is now vacant.
Cleary's characters - most notably Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins - have delighted children for decades. The author, who is now 96 years old and living in California, is one of the world's most distinguished and honored children's writers.
SO ??????????????
Bemused by all the folks saying the house is overpriced. Compare housing costs in PDX to those in other major cities:

One reason I moved here.
Portland real estate in general is way too high. How many people can afford a price like that? It's a cute house, but nothing special (outside of it being the childhood home a some famous writer I never heard of). At 1,222 square feet it's rather small, but at least they gave the real square feet according the the tax records. So many of the Portland area real estate listings are not honest about the living space size.
Realty check. Â Most all of the houses with character in SE are expensive. Â My son has been looking there. Â Way over his head. Â It is a shame they filmed in Canada. Â
I grew up very close to that house.
Love Beverly Cleary! Hate the price on her house. It's adorable...but come on...not $362,000 "cute". I'm surprised anyone wants to live in Portland anymore with these prices and taxes :(
Beverly Cleary who?
@theobserver Are you serious..
Suckers willing to pay so much for so little are what caused the housing bubble in the first place. Â But theres one born every minute. Â Someone must be reading the pop up ads year after year as well or they would be gone by now. Â Do you know the little secret drivers in Oregon are not told by the insurance companies? Â Did you know about Obamas program to save your home....
@Ramona It's kind of a narrow view to base your housing choices based solely on square footage and lot size. It does seem a little steep, but it is in a fine, safe neighborhood with a great walk score I bet, decent school options, and convenient location to much of PDX metro. They're not suckers, they're proud Portlanders or any number of the multitudes that want to move here.
@dancinmikeb @Ramona
Sounds like the speech of a real estate agent.
@RamonaSuckers willing to pay so much for so little are what caused
 the housing bubble in the first place.
You've got to be a real dunce to pay six figures to live on a lot the size of a postage stamp.
I took my kids to go see Ramona and Beezus a while back. I noticed that although it was all about Portland, it was filmed in Canada. Lol. Klickitat St. here is scary.
@Mr. Carbon Footprint klickitat is a long street, running from close in NE all the way out to Rockwood. I'm sure there are less desirable segments, but many highly desirable parts too!
@Mr. Carbon Footprint  What? You mean that...wasn't...Portland...? Boohoo!!
I remember Beezus and Ramona (not the one here, thank God.) Ah, such memories, such memories!
Oh, what a totally adorable house..! Â I love it..! Â Wish they had interior pics..! Â :-)
@margay1Â There are pics, go to the list price link, it's pretty cute inside too!
@GladiOla @margay1 ~  Thanks..!  On thinking that through a little more after I posted the 1st time, I did some fast research and found the photos - what a cute place on the inside, too!   Would be just right for me and my 2 kitties, but (a) the price is out of my league, and (2) I couldn't afford the Portland taxes..!  ...sigh...
Fifty years down the line, and the instant I saw her name I said "Ribsy!" Few lives have the lasting impact of Ms. Cleary's.
@alohan ...and I thought "Otis Spofford'. I loved her books when I was a kid!
Good place for the occupiers to go
I'd give $250K; move in, remodel, and put the house on the national list of historic places and never pay taxes on it again....the remodeling first part is the key.
Kinda steep for only 1 bathroom.
@badcatOld Mother Hubbard lives in the cupboard so you have rental income.
Maybe it comes with autographed books?
