WOODLAND, Wash. – Clark County sheriff's deputies recovered the body of a missing kayaker who was presumed drowned in the Lewis River.
Thadius "Thad" Roberts, 32, was trying to cross the river on Sept. 28 with two others who made it safely. Searchers found Roberts' kayak and gear later that day, but Roberts was not found. They searched the area near the Happa boat launch until dark on Sunday.
A boater spotted a body matching Roberts' description in the river downstream from the Cedar Creek ramp Saturday morning. The body was turned over to the Clark County medical examiner.
Sgt. Fred Neiman said Roberts' family was told about the recovery.
Deputies said Roberts wasn't wearing a life jacket, although there was one recovered from his kayak.
