Bomb scare at Scappoose police station causes evacuations
SCAPPOOSE, Ore. – A man walked into the police station at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with an ice chest, saying he believed there was a bomb inside that he had disarmed, according to the Scappoose Police Department.
The police station and City Hall (which is in the same building) and several other buildings were evacuated. Police also closed off several blocks.
The man put the ice chest outside.
The Oregon State Police bomb squad arrived and blew up the ice chest.
There were no reports of injuries.
As a result of the incident, Tuesday night’s City Council meeting was postponed until Wednesday.
"The Oregon State Police bomb squad arrived and blew up the ice chest."You mean they didn't take it inside the building with innocent people around and beat and pry on it? I guess they must have learned something in the past few years.
I guess journalism really is dead. I mean, it would have nice to know if there was really a bomb or not, I mean, considering this is a story about one.

Also, why if the bomb squad dealt with the situation is the City Council scared out of their panties? The situation is resolved right?
I came through Scappoose at just after 3pm all the roads were blocked off. My question to KATU... why was it I never got a traffic alert, nothing... Until after 5pm... Someone needs to wake up and realize Columbia County needs more exposure. We rarely get road condition information, we rarely get crime information, I have lived in this community for over 20 years. I drive from St Helens to Portland every day. Â My community has gone from roughly 2,000 people to 10,000 people, most commuting into Portland, 1 road, Hwy 30. It was a great little town 20 years ago, now it's a free for all.... And the only time we get a traffic update is if there is a major wreck or fatality.... Â
@Stardancer I drove through Scappoose over the Summer and noticed it had grown quite a bit since I was there last. I'll bet Hwy 30 get's pretty busy during the morning/evening commutes now.
@JohnQ.Public  @Stardancer I live on Hwy 30. The only time traffic slows down is around 3am. Other than that, it is a race course.Â
For crying out loud, wtf is wrong with people? "Hey guys, I have an ice chest here that I think is a bomb and I think I disarmed it. Wanna take a look? Here, I'll just set it on your desk."
 Saul Goodman!Â

He took the bottle caps off so no pressure could build up from the dry ice.
@str1ngb3nd3r Hmm...I don't recall that episode. Is that from the current season?
