PORTLAND, Ore. – Police officers called in the Portland bomb squad on Tuesday morning after somebody found a small "improvised explosive device" near a church dumpster.

An hour later, investigators had destroyed the device. Nobody was hurt.

The first officers to arrive deemed the small device suspicious enough to call in the Metro Explosives Disposal Unit, or the bomb squad.

The item was found near at outside dumpster at the Montavilla United Methodist Church near SE 80th Avenue and Ash Street.

Once the bomb squad destroyed it, investigators from Portland Police, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives took over the investigation.
