Boy, 1, falls out apartment window in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A one-year-old boy fell out a second-story window of a Vancouver apartment building Sunday afternoon.
The boy’s injuries are unclear. Sgt. Fred Neiman with the Clark County Sheriff's Office said the boy was alert and crying after he fell at around 3:15 p.m. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
The boy pushed on a window screen until it gave away, Neiman said. He landed on dirt, not pavement.
It happened at the Steeple Chase Apartments at 4617 Northeast Saint John’s Road.
Ahh, you always know that good weather is upon us when you start to hear the pitter patter of little children falling out of second story windows...
I was going to say something like that. Yours is great. I will just go with ....Ahh the sounds of spring......................Splat....................................................Splat...................................................
Splat.................................................Splat.............................................................................Splat
There's no way a 1 year old could reach the window. There's a lot more to this than meets the aye.
I'm going to start counting how many times this happens this year. These stories are plastered all over the place. Apparently these dead beats missed the Captain Obvious train. One? A one year old? Really? Who doesnt watch a one year old? Apparently these people.
I don't watch one year olds. What's your point?
This kid is a warrior. Thank God he is OK. I hope the parents understand that, yes, these things do happen with kids. I think about some of the stupid things I did when I was a kid, and the stupid things my kids did. It's just a part of life. I am happy that God watches over us all.
These things DON'T just happen with kids. These things happen because the adults who should have been watching this 1-year old *weren't* watching him.
@lawenla I do agree with that. And sometimes it's the little things that happen and sometimes it more than that. There is no such thing as a perfect parent, but I do hope this couple learned big time from this event. I am not the one willing to cast the first stone.
@SimpleLivinginPortland What about the ones who fall out windows and have brain damage, or die? Is god watching them too, or was he in the bathroom?

And you came up with that bit of genius because the poster believes in God, and you don't?
ONE YEAR OLD!!! They are barely walking at this point. HOW did this toddler get up to a window enough to fall out? Did you parents put his bed under the window?

@feral If that kid was smoking pot he/she would have gone to the fridge for munchies instead of trying to fly-definitely a meth baby, not a pot head.
Dang! Thank you for setting my thinking straight. I thought feral was talking about the parents using pot.
@FireEyes kids these days, they start earlier and earlier
@feral Did your mother drop you on your head ?
I think his guardian angels were looking after him.
@Phuzz when I first read that I thought you said, "I think his guardian angels were looking for him."
i have a two year old and have lived in a second story apartment since before he was born. its called watching your kids. they should try it sometime.
@KATUNews he alive?
Yeah, he alive?
I once fell out of a basement window.  I'm much taller now.
This is my godson. He is doing well. God was with him today. Prayers are appreciated. He is a very curious little man.

@Chanell Henifin Smith Thank God God was with him. Does he babysit, often?
It must be getting closer to warm weather? Windows are getting opened! Gravity always effects everyone! Hope the kid isn't injured too badly. Betcha next time he'll not lean against a screen, or stick his head too far out the window. Experience does lead to knowledge! Â
Gravity doesn't exist. It's something the illuminati uses to try to control you.
Hola padres idiota mantener a sus hijos lejos de las ventanas abiertas, mejor aún mantener la ventana medio abierta un palo o algo
@Nuclear-X We live in America. Speak English.
I think Nuclear-X is pretending to be Latino. Sounds too American to be Mexican. This is what it says:
"Hey idiot parents keep their children away from open windows, better yet keep the window open half a stick or something"
This is an article which, after finishing reading it for the third time, the only thing I can say is . . . .
Dang, I hate it when my screen name is correct!
Where were the parent(s)?
@samsloohouse watching soccer, taking care of the 2 other babies, cant watch them all ya know
@nuclear  nobody watches soccer, my guess is she was making baby #4
Coulda been watching, "Teen Mom"...
@samsloohouse Probably buying Girl Scout cookies from the scam artists who faked that hoax.

@feral You really advocate the nanny state and the abolishment of our civil rights with every post. Here's a tip you don't like the way this country is run, feel free to LEAVE.
@Jeremy @feral Careful.  If you've got your panties in a bunch right now over the whole Haugen/Kitzhaber execution thing, one might say, "If you don't like the way Oregon is run, feel free to LEAVE".
@Jeremy   Please don't feed the trolls
30 plus years I named a dog, 'Fred' after Deputy Fred Neiman at CCSO and the dog finally ran away. How can this possibly be breaking news???
@boned  Dang! You had a dog live 30 years?  Must be some sort of record (or flouride in the water)
The parents said when he comes home from the hospital they're having a pinata party in the tree down by the road and money providing, buying a brand new swimming pool to get ready for summer.Â
@Richard Goezinyah No need for a pool.  The apartment complex already has one.
It sounds like this kid will bounce right back.
Time to get parents up to speed about how living higher than 1 story up with open windows and kids don't mix!Â
Glad the tyke is ok. Just move climbable furniture away from windows, for a start.Â
Why does this KEEP happening in the Vancouver / Portland metro? How many last year? Now again this year? Is good parenting, common sense, and keeping an eye on your kids becoming lost? I think so..... *facepalm*
Common sense tells me it happens everywhere, except maybe in small, rural towns where everything is one-story.
@Liberty4_WACommon sense is so rare it should be classified as a super power.

@Josh Johnshum Yeah, it was fun until my youngest asked "can we play again".
@Josh Johnshum thats funny I can relate to that,I have put my finger in a light socket when I was little
@Josh Johnshum We called that the bonus round to the game of "Operation".
Makes you want to scream - "Window screens won't restrain kids!"Â How long will it take for people to learn?
@Nobody ~  Window screens won't restrain anything heavier than a house-fly... Where people get the idea that they will restrain a toddler (or even a dog or cat that jumps up on them), I will never know..!  Â
Hope this toddler is OK...Â
@margay1 @Nobody I work for a window company and we put these lil stickers on the screens, telling parents in English and Spanish screens arnt meant to keep people from falling out
@margay1 @wondering @Nuclear-X @Nobody idiocracy?
@wondering @Nuclear-X @margay1 @Nobody ~  So true... if it gets any more complicated, they'll have to resort to using only pictures or drawings... you know, like something inside a red circle with a red slash across it... :-)
@Nuclear-X @margay1 @Nobody  Well, therein lies the problem - only 2 languages? Must include Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, street slang, white trash jive, phonetics, ad naseum.
