Boy, 14, pleads guilty to groping barista
YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A 14-year-old Toppenish, Wash. boy has pleaded guilty to groping a woman in a Catholic church and scantily clad a barista at a coffee stand.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the boy was 13 at the time of the attacks. He entered his plea on Friday and now faces up two and a half years in juvenile prison, pending an evaluation.
The boy has an already lengthy criminal history dating back to 2011. The boy pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after flinging a Chihuahua mix and breaking its leg. Before that the boy had been caught breaking into an elderly woman's home.
Authorities say the boy was awaiting his juvenile trial on the groping charges at the church when he took his mother's minivan and drove up to the Moulin Brew coffee in Yakima, where he crawled through the window and began groping the lone barista on duty.
" boy has pleaded guilty to groping a woman in a Catholic church and scantily clad a barista at a coffee stand." So, he forced a barista into scantily clad clothing? Christ, do they even teach grammar and writing skills to journalists anymore? This is pathetic.
There is more to this than just the groping, breaking into an old woman's house, and breaking a dog's leg. I bet he has an undiagnosed mental illness; or at least some sort of abuse in the past. He's all over the place, and not in a good way.
@washcomom ~  That could very well be the case washcomom... but they still need to get him off the street before he kills somebody... I can see that happening... and I can also envision an encounter with LE, and I don't think that would end well... Â
"A 14-year-old Toppenish, Wash. boy has pleaded guilty to groping a woman in a Catholic church and scantily clad a barista at a coffee stand."
Â
Yeah, he's a bad boy and needs some effective discipline, but the real crime here is the writing in this story!
A seriously troubled piece of trash.
How come this kid's first TREATMENT PROGRAM failed?
This individual sounds like he needs to be locked up in the state hospital for as long as it takes,
@whirledworld No he needs to go to adult prison for about 2 days.....that should just about do it!
WOW. Read this story and the vandals who destroyed the statues at the Grotto. What is wrong with our society. For evil to exist all that good people need do is look the other way. There is always an opportunity to intervene. When we see evil, do we do something about it or look the other way? As more of us look the other way, our society becomes more like what we are reading. Someone knows who did the Grotto damage and could inform authorities.Â
@LM Maria Hmm it is for Evil to win, a few good people need to do nothing.
@LM Maria And this is poignant how? You speak about a totally separate crime at the Grotto,,,
especially the ones with big knockers    KIDDING!!!  have a great weekend
Sounds like this guy didn't have a good father to teach him how to respect and cherish women
It sounds like this kid doesn't have much of a future and certainly has not had good parenting. Time for some scared straight treatment or he will be a lost cause forever.
@I812 Time to stop charging him as a juvenile!
A budding psychopath?
Even with his criminal history, two and a half years in juvenile prison is absurd. Clearly though this kid needs to change his behavior fast or he'll find himself in big boy prison for a long time.
Â
In some states when a kid continues skipping school they go after the parents, the same should done in this case.
@Jamie Ma'am, you have no idea what goes on in the Yakima Valley and you are really better off not knowing because I doubt seriously you could handle it. Just my humble opinion...
@boned <--- Boy is YOUR face red!
Â
"BTW I'm not a ma'am."Â Hee hee!
@boned Yeah, you're probably right Portland is bad enough. BTW I'm not a ma'am.
@Jamie are you speak of bringing back the Big T.O...aka Truent Officer? now that is what we indeed need more of.
@lee986321 @Jamie Truant. Not "truent." Can't anyone spell anymore?
@Just Lookin: Yeah it gets irritating when all people post about are spelling errors. But on the other hand 'Words mean things'
@Mechanic Lee doesn't spell words, he gropes them. ;-)
 @boned  @Mechanic Try cognit
@Mechanic Great, another one that has self-appointed himself part of the Spelling Police when they have nothing cogent to say. You might have to look 'cogent' up since you have no idea what it means and please confine your comments to the intended, OK??
@Just Lookin Some people are just to up tight. He should try some Duluth Ballroom Jeans
Nothing better to do than to run around correcting people? Funny really.
Look, I realized I mention that kids would do this sooner or later or have talked about kids doing this kind of thing ...But I was told I didn't know what I was talking about, I was an idiot, or I had a few screws loose... Well, here it is... and I thought the 2 girls I over heard on the bus talking about luring a guy in there home, have sex with him, and then charge him with rape was crazy .. What the HEll is happening? Just how crazy are things going to get? If there are any more of this kind of thing lIt is really going to mess up things.
@lee986321 Their, not "there." What? Is today flaunt your ignorance day?
@Mechanic Jesus, no wonder you have no friends and lead a monk's life. It is the substance of the comment and not the spelling you dolt.Â
@boned    "It's the substance...not the spelling" Really? Because improper spelling can alter the substance. Why are you so willing to accept slop? Oh wait, that's becoming the American way. Those such as yourself are products of our dumbed down educational system.Â
@Mechanic  "If there are any more of this kind of thing lIt is really going to mess up things." ---the spelling is the least of the problems with that post!
@Mechanic No it's looks like it's spellng Natzi Day.
@Pvpbw  @Mechanic Truant, Nazi, Their...OK, how's the Spelling Bee going...?
The kid has a lengthy criminal history? Where the h3ll are this kids parents? Why haven't they done anything to this kid?Â
Â
When I was his age, if had done something like this, my parents would have made sure it was the last time I did something like this.Â
@scoreboard Um, you can say "hell". It's not a dirty word. It's a concept.
@scoreboard "Where the h3ll are this kids parents? Why haven't they done anything to this kid? ..."
The fact is that the parents may have created this monster. A lot of people just like him get a little older and go out and breed, and they "raise" little monsters either by no attention,  or  sociopathinc abuse/neglect ( and passing on mental health issues).
I used to know a  neuropsycologist  back in the day who did a lot of assessments in the  jails and the amount of brain-injured inmates was shocking. Oh...they wouldn't *seem* brain-injured like you  stereoptypically would think of, but if the brain is injured in certain ( and not uncommon ways) the intellect is still there, but the judgement/ sense of appropriate morals/ anger/fear modulation can be totally or partially broken and it's not pretty. In fact, it's a subtle to huge nightmare.  It doesn't take much to damage a brain, either. Especially a child's who gets beaten and/or kicked in the skull. Just once can do it.  And the horrible thing is: it's untreatable. All you can hope for is to manage it...if it ever even is diagnosed.Â
You asked for the parents? Well! Tell you what? This f***ed up kid doesn't have any parent. How could he drive his "mom"'s minivan at 13? Who gave him permission?  The second part of your comment, I totally agree. The point is you have parents, this kid doesn't.
Really KATU? "..scantily clad a barista"? Besides completely mixing up that sentence, what is this the 1950's? What a woman is wearing is not an invitation to assault her. By even saying that she was 'scantily clad' is insulting, as if she played a role and 'asked for it'. Please try to respect women in your 'news' articles and stop insinuating that her attire is an important aspect to include in this story.Â
@hchase "What a woman is wearing is not an invitation to assault her."
Â
Um...to some people, despite such platitudes, it is exactly that.
Â
People say that the way a woman dresses is not an invitation to assault her, and in a perfect society, that would be true.
Â
But time and again, REPEATEDLY, the truth about humanity being an imperfect species rears its ugly head. And in the case of the baristas, they dress that way SPECIFICALLY TO PROVOKE a response from their clientele. While it's usually a grin or a leer or a bigger tip, not everyone can control those baser urges.
Â
While most men are able to control themselves and stay within societal boundaries of decor, there are plenty out there who need little or no excuse at all to attack a woman. A scantily-clad woman alone in a coffee trailer is exactly the kind of opportunity that appeals to them.
@hchase It doesn't have a thing to do with anything for normal healthy people. But for a messed up kid? Maybe it was an enticement for someone who doesn't think right. He groped a woman in church and was awaiting punishment. Maybe he's getting really messed up messages and thought the ''sleazy dressed girl'' wouldn't mind. That's not my opinion, but people tend to assume that we all behave equally and act appropriately. This kid is proof we don't. Along with thousands of others. Regardless, this kid will get shuffled around the system until he commits a serious enough crime to do some real time. Sad, because it's most likely his upbringing, but not always.
@hchase maybe it was one of those places that has people working in their swimsuits
 @archon312  @hchase so what?
This kid is a menace.. Lock him up for awhile..
he's coming of age
Sounds like he's missed one too many good ass whoopings
 @wondering whuppings.
@wondering You can probably blame the lack of good ass whoopings on DHS. Nowadays parents are afraid to give kids the proper punishment they most likely deserve for fear of losing their kids.Â
Â
We can't hurt their fragile psyche with a good butt whoopin'! I'm sorry but when I was kid, if I messed up I got my butt whooped good.Â
@scoreboard  @wondering It's whuppin'. Whooping is a shrieking sound someone might make when being whupped.
@whirledworld  @wondering Who cares.....are you the spelling and grammar cop? I got my point across and that what matters.
@scoreboard  @wondering ~  Well, I think these parents WILL, in fact, eventually lose their kid... at the rate he's going, he's either going to end up dead or in prison, long-term...
Â
I think he needs to be OFF the street - NOW - for as long as possible, before he kills somebody... Â he's a walking red flag..!
@scoreboard  @wondering ~  Yes, scoreboard, on that point, I agree with you 100%..!    Good parenting has to start LONG before the teenage years... Â
@margay1  @wondering That's true but perhaps if DHS actually knew what they were doing, this kid would have gotten the butt whooping he needed after the first offense and the rest of this wouldn't have happened.
Â
@scoreboard  @wondering Now that I can agree on.
