Boy, 2, found alone in SE Portland home with mother's corpse
PORTLAND, Ore. — Police say officers discovered a hungry and thirsty 2-year-old boy alone in a Southeast Portland house where his mother's body was found Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the home in the 10100 block of Southeast Long Street at around 8:30 a.m.
They say 40-year-old Micaela Quinn died of natural causes. Police said she had ongoing medical issues.
Police spokesman Pete Simpson told KATU News Quinn was the boy's mother.
A friend called officers after she hadn't heard from Quinn for a few days.
Police say the child appears in good health but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police said detectives, the medical examiner and the Department of Human Services will try to find family for the child.
How sad for that little boy!
Makes me sad to think that anyone would have to 'look' for family for this poor child. Family should have already been there for the mom. She died alone, unable to protect her child. That's heartbreaking...
That poor little angel. ):Â
So sad....poor little guy! I hope he will find loving people to take good care of him.
Oh that is really sad...but very good that the mom had a friend who cared enough to alert the police...Â
Â
I hope they'll find someone in this little boy's extended family; perhaps an aunt & uncle or grandparents; people he knows, at least a little bit... Hopefully, he won't remember much of this as he grows older... Â

@August100 Think before you post. Very few people remember much of anything @ 2 years old. If this youngster has ANY of the problems you seem to be wishing on him it would stem from abuse in the adoptive family; chances are that won't happen, so put down the crack pipe and quit having your drug induced freakout tantrums.
@August100  @18 What the heck are YOU on?
@BCH mom  @August100 Sounds like some Portland Weird to me....
 @August100  @18 Huh???
Â
I am sorry for the young mom and the child. Hope that there is family that will give the child a safe home for the next 16/18 years and tell him all about his mother when he is old enough to understand.
Now that sucks!!! I hope the child is young enough to not remember any of that.
Poor kid. I hope he gets a hug, and someone to love him.
Poor baby, hopefully he won't remember much.
how heartbreaking... I too hope the child doesn't have any long term trauma from this
This is what welfare checks are for and a valuable service that the police provide. If they hadn't done a welfare check that child would have died.
Â
I hope they can find a nice home for the kid and that the child is too young to remember this incident.

@RalphCramden How many times are we going to agree this week? My god! I agree, welfare checks are very important. I'm single, and to be honest, I've wondered since age 20 how long it would take for someone to check on me if I died in my home. I wished this could have had a happier ending for the woman, but I do have hope that the child will be able to placed with loving family members or adopted by a future loving family.
How sad! :-(
Â
I'm glad she had friends and people checking on her or this could have turned out bad. Just reminds us to keep our friends and family close and take those extra 2 seconds to look in on a sick family member, neighbor, co-worker or friend.
How sad, glad the child was ok.
Oh man, that's sad. Â I'm glad he's too young to remember this and hopefully won't carry it throughout his life. Â I hope he has other family and won't go into the foster care system.
Â
Oh how awful for the little one. Goodness! I hope they find someone to take care of the child.
