SUBLIMITY, Ore. -- A 10-year-old boy is recovering from a fall he took while hiking with his father at Silver Falls State Park.
Oregon State Police say Wilson Pelot of Portland was walking behind his father on a trail near the South Falls Sunday afternoon when he stopped to take a break. Pelot leaned against a railing that gave way, sending him 40 feet down a hill.
He landed in shallow water. His father got him out and carried him across the creek, where they waited for paramedics.
Paramedics took him out of the park on an ATV to an ambulance.
State police said medics took Pelot to Oregon Health and Science Univeristy in Portland where he is in intensive care. Police said Pelot's injuries were not life-threatening.
