Burglar steals wedding band, gifts from Portland couple
PORTLAND, Ore. – Just weeks before a Portland couple was set to get married, a burglar broke into their house and stole the bride’s wedding band and several wedding gifts.
The burglar broke into the house in Southeast Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood sometime between 8 and 10:30 p.m. on Monday evening, according to Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.
He or she stole wedding gifts, including cash and gift cards, and the bride’s wedding band, Simpson said. The couple was planning to get married in two weeks.
Officers showed up shortly after 11 p.m. when the groom returned from work and found what had happened. They said the burglar removed a pane of glass and entered through an attached garage.
Officers also found a backyard gate ajar that the homeowner said was typically closed.
Burglary detectives are investigating and asking for anyone with information to provide tips to CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.
The Portland Police Bureau also has a website with tips to prevent burglaries in your home.
I'm surprised the police came out for this. I thought they'd stopped doing it years ago when we lived near this very same area.

As for the couple, I'm sorry that things that matter most to you are gone. Been there, done that, twice in the house and several things outside (including the grill off of our pickup!).
I absolutely h-a-t-e thieves..! Â
Castration would be fitting if it was a male. As for a good punishment for a female, it is not for me as a man to decide.
@Pointblank Thankfully, we aren't generally into "cruel and usual punishment" in America, you know our constitution and all. I can't imagine what punishment you'd think would appropriate for rape?Â
You can be assured that this is someone that the couple knows - or possibly even someone from inside the family. Whoever took these things knew where they were. Amazing
I hate thieves. They are one of the lowest forms of life. What they stole had little value to them other than an opportunity for some quick cash at a fraction of the value they had to the owners who cannot replace what they lost.
Just had this happen a week ago. Most of what was stolen we not important, however, they took my mothers portrait that she had done as a young woman 60 years go. Who knows why they thought it had value! The police were very kind, but also said it was not likely they would catch them or be able to find the items they took.
@ORBorn I had similar things stolen, and about all I could do was inform the local pawn shops and give a description, and look at craigslist which is a common fencing operation for thieves.
@flyroy  @ORBorn It totally sucks doesn't it? I do peruse craigslist regularly.

Sure hoping they find out who did this. Â I wonder if they knew the person. Â

This happened to my wife and myself 3 years ago. The scumbag thief stole all my wife's jewelry she had since a child including her's and my wedding ring of 32 year. I'd sure like to know who did it.
