PORTLAND, Ore. -- A short car chase ended after a wanted man evaded a Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy and barricaded himself in an apartment.
Around 6 p.m. on Sunday 43-year-old David Shawn Oroke, from Milwaukie, Ore., was driving in a red pickup truck when a deputy tried to pull him over for a motorcycle in his truck bed, but Oroke drove off. After a brief pursuit Oroke stopped his truck at a dead end road on the 8800 block of SE Jansen Rd, nearly driving up onto the curb.
Oroke ran from the Clackamas County deputy and barricaded himself in a nearby apartment complex. Residents at the apartments told the deputy they had seen Oroke run into the building.
The deputy made multiple attempts to get Oroke out of the apartment, but he refused to come out. Clackamas County SWAT team was called on scene to help arrest Oroke.
Renters of the apartment who knew Oroke came out of the apartment and told SWAT and the deputy he was still inside. After attempts to negotiate with Oroke were unsuccessful the SWAT team used tear gas to force Oroke out of the unit.
Oroke was arrested on outstanding warrants including DUII and possession of methamphetamine. His new charges include attempting to elude a peace officer and reckless driving. He is currently being held at the Clackamas County Jail.
